The Open Neo Project

The Open Neo project is an open source firmware for the Neo Car Jukebox, which is also known as the Neo 35, mp3 player.

On this site I intend to try and make the project a little easier to use for the people less interested in doing  the development, such as all the information you need to load the new firmware, modify it and even re-invent it if you would like.

FAQs

1. In the SSI America firmware I used to be able to Randomly play the whole hard disk, why not now?
Actually you can still do that but this new system is designed to used playlists. To create a playlist for the whole hard disk, make sure you are in the root directory, then press 'M' for menu, press down arrow until you get to 'Playlist Options', press '>>' twice. This will create /root.m3u, your total playlist. If you do not like this file name (as it is what will be displayed on the screen in future) rename it when you next connect to your PC, just keep the .M3U extension - I called mine 'All Music.M3U. Also remember to redo this if you add or delete music.

2. I created a WPS file, now how do I use it?
Yes, this foxed me for a while - You have to play it, but your scratching your head because you don't know how. Well this is probably because you can't find it due to the filter. Press 'M' for menu, now press the down arrow until you get to 'General Settings', Press '>>' once, Press down arrow once (File View), Press '>>' once, Press down arrow once (Show Files), Press '>>' once, Press '>>' until you get to 'All'. Now press 'PLAY' (selects option). Now press 'STOP' until you get to the top level, find your .WPS and play it - your play screen is now setup. In order to tidy the file list up again, go through the above and change from 'ALL' to the 'MUSIC' selection.
